The series was originally developed for SNK's Neo Geo MVS arcade hardware, which served as the main platform for the series until 2008, when SNK retired the MVS in favor of the Atomiswave arcade board. The King of Fighters officially abbreviated KOF, is a series of fighting games by SNK Playmore (formerly SNK). The series was originally developed for SNK's Neo Geo MVS arcade hardware, which served as the main platform for the series until 2004, when SNK retired the MVS in favor of the Atomiswave arcade board. Only two King of Fighters games were made on the Atomiswave platform (The King of Fighters Neowave and The King of Fighters XI) before SNK decided to discontinue using the platform for the series. The current arcade hardware for the series is the Taito Type X2, with its first usage coming with the release of The King of Fighters XII. Ports of the arcade games and original The King of Fighters games have been released for several video games consoles. The first game in the series,The King of Fighters was released by SNK on August 25, 1994. The game featured characters from SNK's previous fighting game series Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting, as well as original characters (including characters from older games such as Ikari Warriors and Psycho Soldier, adapted for a versus fighting game). The success of the game led SNK to release yearly installments of the series and numbered the games for the year they were released. The King of Fighters 95 was released on July 25, 1995, with several ports being released the next year. In addition to adding new characters, this game also began the first story arc of the series titled The Orochi Saga. KOF 95 was also the first game in the series that allowed the players to create their own team of three members, out of any character in the game. The King of Fighters 96, released on July 30, 1996, establishes the second part of The Orochi Saga and replaced the character sprites from the previous two years with newly drawn ones, improving the gameplay of the series as well. Depending on the playable characters in a team, an exclusive ending will be played. The King of Fighters 97, released on July 28, 1997, concluded The Orochi Saga story arc. The King of Fighters 98 was released on July 23, 1998, and unlike the previous games of the series, it did not feature a story. Instead, the game was promoted as a Dream Match game that allowed players to choose most of the characters available from the previous titles, including ones that were supposedly dead. SNK refitted the Dreamcast version and renamed it The King of Fighters: Dream Match 1999 with an extended cel animated introduction and 3D backgrounds.n July 22, 1999, The King of Fighters 99 was released, which introduced a new story arc known as The NESTS Chronicles. The game introduces several new characters into the series, as well as the rule of a fourth member being added to each team and that a new tactic is introduced in this game as well. The tactic would be that a specific person from a team would be an assistant called a Strike and that this person would be able to aid the team for a few seconds in combat. The Dreamcast version was titled The King of Fighters: Evolution, with several improvements in the game such as new strikers and better animation. The King of Fighters 2000 was released on July 26, 2000, and is the second part of The NESTS Chronicles.

    The Typing of the Dead

The Typing of the Dead certainly looks dated, but it's also surprisingly fun.The Typing of the Dead is an offbeat first person puzzle action game for the PC that lets you fight hordes of gruesome zombies by quickly typing out words that appear onscreen. This unusual game actually has a history: It originally debuted on Sega's Dreamcast console in 2000 and was itself a modified version of Sega's previously released light-gun arcade game, The House of the Dead 2. The Typing of the Dead certainly looks dated, considering its age and the number of times it's been ported onto different platforms, but it's also surprisingly fun. What other game lets you type zombies to death? The Typing of the Dead's story, such as it is, concerns a mad scientist's attempt to create an army of zombies, led by a super zombie emperor, to rule the world. Only your character a special agent armed with a Dreamcast console and keyboard can stop him. That's all you need to know about The Typing of the Dead's story, because once you start playing, you'll be too busy frantically typing away at zombies to care about anything else. Every time an enemy appears onscreen, it';s accompanied by a word or phrase that you must type in quickly and accurately to defeat it. This might not sound too interesting, but things can get very exciting when three or four angry zombies each bearing a long, challenging phrase suddenly leap out at you from all sides. As with most light-gun games, The Typing of the Dead is played on rails' that is, you can't actually move your character or choose where to go next; the game determines that. However, depending on how quickly you defeat your enemies, you may be able to rescue innocent bystanders, uncover bonus items, and choose alternate paths through a level, though you'll always finish each level by fighting a powerful boss monster. These boss monsters will actually challenge you in a few interesting ways. For instance, one will force you to figure out and type in the correct answer to a simple question, while another will come barreling at you with a giant chainsaw and will strike you if you can't type out a full sentence in time. You can play through the game's six stages either in arcade mode or in an alternate, original mode, which lets you unlock a few handy options, like starting new games with extra lives or with more continues. The game also features several other modes that let you square off against each of the boss monsters or sharpen your skills by testing your typing speed and accuracy, and you can unlock new modes as you complete each test. The Typing of the Dead uses pretty much all the same monsters and levels from The House of the Dead 2, and unfortunately, it shows. The same graphics, environments, and special effects that may have seemed like the state of the art for an arcade game a few years ago now look flat, blocky, and pixelated by today's standards. The Typing of the Dead runs at a fixed (and unimpressive) resolution of 640'480, which doesn't do much to keep many of the game's textures from looking blurry. And, in keeping with its horror theme, the game isn't especially colorful: Most of the levels you'll fight through are drab, broken-down buildings and sewers. However, the game itself runs briskly, even on low-end to mid-range machines, with absolutely no slowdown, and the zombies (and the heroes who fight them) are animated well and look about as good as they can, considering how blocky the game's 3D models sometimes seem.

    MotoGP 2

MotoGP 2 has twice the number of tracks available, and it includes just enough other enhancements to make it a worthwhile successor to MotoGP.

Having been released as a launch game for the PlayStation 2, Namco's original MotoGP was a solid racing game that accurately represented the sport of Grand Prix road racing and successfully translated what is one of the most physically demanding motorsports into a visually realistic game one that was easily accessible to casual racing fans while still maintaining a lot of appeal for hard-core buffs. If MotoGP had one failing, though, it was the lack of racetracks that were available with only five circuits, the game's replay value suffered. Fortunately, MotoGP 2 has twice the number of tracks available, and it includes just enough other enhancements to make it a worthwhile successor to MotoGP.

Like the first game, MotoGP 2 boasts bikes, racetracks, and factory teams that are licensed from Dorna's 2001 500cc Grand Prix (GP for short) league. Anyone who's familiar with the sport will undoubtedly appreciate being able to race alongside Alex Criville from Team Respol YPF Honda or Telefonica Suzuki's Kenny Roberts Jr. on 10 of the season s 16 circuits. Five of MotoGP's original tracks Suzuka, Paul Ricard, Jerez, Donington, and Motegi are still available in MotoGP 2, as are five brand-new courses, which include Catalunya, Assen, Le Mans, Mugello, and Sachsenring. The overall mechanics of MotoGP 2 remain essentially unchanged from those of the original. This means that the three primary gameplay modes of arcade, championship, and time trial are included in this sequel. As you can probably infer from its name, arcade is a straightforward mode that gives you the option of riding for one of the many teams represented in the game against 20 other riders on any of the 10 tracks. You can further custom-tailor your race by choosing the number of laps, adjusting the difficulty of other riders, and fiddling with one of five generic performance variables for your bike transmission, handling, acceleration, brakes, and tires and that's one more than the original game offered, by the way. Another new option is the ability to select wet weather, which severely impairs your vision and handicaps your bike's traction.

The time trial mode is similar to the arcade mode, and it lets you choose from the same number of prerace options, but you'll be pitting your skills against the clock, not other riders. Of these three modes, though, championship is easily the one with the most appeal. Here, you can choose to race for one of three beginner teams across all 10 tracks in succession, as you would in the real world. Before each race, you're given one practice session to tweak your bike's performance to that particular course and one qualifying round to determine your grid standing before you actually jump into the race. At the end of each race, you're given a certain number of points depending on where you placed. If the total number of points you earn at the end of 10 races (one season) meets your team's requirement, then you're allowed to sign a new contract with them. Or you can opt to jump to a better team that'll give you a faster bike if you meet its requirements. The rider with the most points after five seasons is crowned the overall champ. It would have been nice to have the option of racing the actual 2001 16-race season as it happened in real life, but it would have been impossible to model the game's different team requirements with only a single season, since nobody switches teams in midseason. As it is, MotoGP 2's championship mode in its current form, as with MotoGP's, is more than acceptable.

Likewise, the control game is no different from MotoGP's. An option before any race lets you turn the simulation mode on or off. When it's off, MotoGP 2's control scheme is very simple, and for the most part, you'll be able to be competitive even if you drive your bike like you would a car. When simulation is turned on, though, the bikes become temperamental and overly responsive to any control input you give them. MotoGP 2 does a good job of modeling rear-wheel spin coming out of turns and front-wheel lockups during braking, and simply mashing the gas and brake buttons around corners is a good way of acquainting yourself with the asphalt. The game makes full use of the Dual Shock's vibration to telegraph loss of adhesion before a total wipeout, and the controller's analog buttons offer enough leeway that you won't have to tap on the gas or brakes while cornering.

    Finding Files in Windows XP

Sometimes, you will have created a file or a folder and just can't remember where it is. If you have a very big hard drive, there are a lot of places to look for a single file. You may never find it, even with the help of Windows Explorer. One thing you can do to track down a missing file or folder is to use the Windows XP Search tool. Here's how to use it.

    • Click your Start button in the bottom left corner of your Desktop
    • From the menu that pops up, locate the Search item (in the blue section on the right, at the bottom)
    • Click on Search
    • When you click on Search, you'll get the following window popping up.
(If you see an animated dog, and it's annoying you, you can turn it off by clicking it with the right mouse button. Then click "turn off animated character".)
Under "What do you want to search for" click the option "All files and folders". You should see the following:
You are given a number of different option to conduct your search. Click inside the top text box, under "All or part of the file name". Enter the name of the file, then click the Search button. (Just enter a few lettters of the file name, if you can't remeber exactly what it's called.) Windows XP will start the search, and you'll see something like this:
In the image above we're searching for a file called "wp projects". If XP finds any files or folders with your search term in it, it will display them in the window to the right. In the image below XP has found two folders with our search term in the name.
Even though we typed all our letters in lowercase, the folders found have capital letters in them. In others words, the search is not case sensitive.
Notice in the picture that under the heading "In Folder" it says "C" and "My Documents". These are the two place where the folders are. So we have a folder called "My WP Projects" in the "My Documents" folder of the hard drive, and we also have one called wpProjects. This one is in the main C:\ root folder.
You can open any of the files or folders found simply by double clicking on them. But double click a file or folder under the "Name" heading of the Window, and not the "In Folder" heading.
Finally, to get rid of the Search Window, click the red X in the top right corner of the box.
